One of my favorite actors was James Cagney and although basically an
actor who made mostly dramas, he did make a few comedies.
But I believe he could have done far more comedies if given the chance.
I also believe this of Wayne.
Cagney and Wayne had the the great gifts as actors to interject comedy
into many dramas. They did it in subtle ways. It in fact made their
characters more human in a lot of ways.
I feel the ability of an actor to interject some comedic element into
any film but especially dramas adds to the overall quality of the film.
