This year's Oscar for Best Original Song went to 'The Weary Kind' by Crazy
Heart. So far, the song has not charted on Billboards Hot100. Last year,
Slumdog Millionaire's winning song, 'Jai Ho', made the Top15 on the chart,
but only as a remade version by The cat Dolls (featuring Nichole
Scherzinger who will be on DwtS this season). Only one song in the last
decade has won the Oscar and hit #1 on the Billboard chart: 'Lose Yourself'
by Eminem from the film 8 Mile. Contrast that with the 1980s when the Oscar
winner hit #1 seven years in a row:
1981, (three weeks), "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)," Christopher
Cross
1982, (three weeks), "Up Where We Belong," Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
1983, (six weeks), "Flashdance...What a Feeling," Irene Cara
1984, (three weeks), "I Just Called to Say I Love You," Stevie Wonder
1985, (four weeks), "Say You, Say Me," Lionel Richie
1986, (one week), "Take My Breath Away," Berlin
1987, (one week), "(I've Had) The Time of My Life," Bill Medley & Jennifer
Warnes

Oscar winning music, and music from films in general, sure seems to have
gotten out of step with what is popular.
