This is better titled "My best War Movies", especially as I haven't seen it
yet.
Your list contains some which don't get over my horizon.
Kelly's Heroes (1970) didn't get the joke 2nd & 3rd time around.
Southern Comfort (1981) Don't know why, but the plot throws me.
Heartbreak Ridge (1986) Can't take that Eastwood macho stuff without
the (unintentional) humour that a Swarzenegger would have given it.
The Dirty Dozen (1967) Well dated it looks and sounds today, and says
nothing to me about war or THE war.
The Eagle Has Landed (1976) Again a little dated, but strong on drama.
From Here to Eternity (1953) Loved the Sinatra song, anyway.
Gunga Din (1939) Love it, but a war film? Squeezing in at the edge. I
would classify as "Boys Own" adventures, along with "Kim".
I suggest (leaving aside other worthy selections)
A Walk in the Sun (1945)
Too Late the Hero(1970)
The Cruel Sea(1953)
9 rota (2005) AKA 9th Company. Does the fair job that most
of your Vietnam selections do.
There is somewhere a well known film about disillusion by British
pilots in WWI but I cant find the name.
