That aspect -- "walking dead" -- will or will not be a factor. Since
the kids are always in a state of impending abandonment and then a
state of arrived abandonment, that they aren't acting in a predictable
way is believable. It was to me, at least. It seems that every attempt
was made not to cutesy up the kids and "observable intimacy" could
easily be read as manipulation. I see where you're coming from, but I
think pursing that would have raised more problems than it solved.
