"Aliens." Debateable, but just about as good IMO.
Not going to include the LOTR trilogy in this discussion. No true
sequel there.
In some ways "Indiana Jones & the Last Crusade" was nearly as good as
"Raiders Of the Lost Ark," but I doubt many would claim it to be a
better movie.
A couple of latecomer so-so sequels to classic movies would be:
1. "The Sin of Harold Diddlebock," Preston Sturges/Harold Lloyd sequel
to his silent classic "The Freshman." I like both of them, but never
would claim that the sequel was nearly as good, nor is it as good as
Sturges' more famous pictures. Still, considering 20+ years had
passed, not too bad.
2. "Psycho II" will probably get the purists howling, but I thought it
was actually a pretty entertaining movie. And no extended
psychobabble trying to explain Norman's urges. Still, no way could it
be confused with the original, which could rightly be considered one
of the top 10 films ever made. |
