Indeed, The Wild Bunch alone would put Peckinpah on my top 30
directors -- it's one of the three or four greatest Westerns -- on a
par with The Searchers, Bend of the River, Red River -- an epic about
an empire in disarray, and arguably the best of the metaphoric Vietnam
movies.
Add in just the westerns and Peckinpah stands with Ford and Hawks and
Mann.
